Engage
Michigan Makers is an after school program that helps students engage with STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and aesthetics, and math) through tinkering and creating, while promoting group work and peer mentoring.
Make
So why are we so excited about Michigan Makers? We think that with tools like Squishy Circuits, Arduinos and more, we're re-introducing creativity into education. When kids learn by doing, they are encouraged to ask questions, challenge the concepts presented to them, and are emboldened to manipulate, test, and experiment with new ideas. We want to give our students plenty of room to flex this important muscle.

This site was created for sharing the experiences of the University of Michigan faculty, graduate students, and Mitchell kids who are participating in the Michigan Makers after-school program for 2013 - 2014. Our program meets in the media center once a week on Mondays, from 3:45-5:15pm for the duration of the school year. Please look around this site for detailed information concerning the lessons we're teaching, the badges we're earning, and all the fun we're having!
The Michigan Makers project is funded by the University of Michigan Teaching and Learning in the Third Century project and the University of Michigan School of Information's Initiative for Information Impact. |
